Fork Assembly for Super Large Trike
Position the fork in an upright position with the threaded tube facing up.
The trike has been shipped partially assembled and the retaining flange
(thin galvanized sleeve with flared end facing down) and
racer seat (beveled ring that bearing contacts) should be in place in the
order listed.
Remove any other bearings or nuts off the fork tube. Place one of the
bearings on the racer seat making sure that the ball bearings are facing UP.
Now lift the head tube of the frame over the fork tube and lower onto fork.
Place the second bearing into the racer cup, this time making sure that the
bearings are facing DOWN. Screw the
adjusting nut onto the fork tube with the flat side facing UP. Tighten
this nut firmly until there is no side to play when firmly shaking the fork
(be careful not to over tighten which causes steering to be stiff).
Tighten top nut well.
Insert Handle Bar Assembly both
Super Large and Large Trike
Insert handle bar assembly
into frame (fork tube) by loosening the long bolt (located in the stem) a
little making sure that the wedge nut stays on. Position the handle
bar and tighten the head of the long bolt until assembly does not move.
The handlebar can be adjusted
forward or backward by loosening the bolt or bolts on the handlebar stem ・
turning the handle bar to the desired angle and then retightening the bolt
or bolts.
The height of the handle bar is
adjustable. The handle bar is normally shipped with the handle bar in the
lowest position. It has approx. 2・of adjustment. Loosen the center bolt on
the stem and then raise the handle bar to the desired height. Align by
eyesight the handlebar to the front wheel and then retighten the bolt while
holding the handle bar. If the handle bar is raised too high, then the bolt
will not tighten and the handle bar will have to be lowered.
Rear End Assembly for both
Super and Large Trikes
Place the frame in an
upright position with the rear foot platform near you. Insert the
steel axle into the rear of frame. Place a spacer on each end of the
axle followed by the wheel. Secure the wheels in place by inserting a
cotter pin into the holes located at both ends of the axle and bending.
Chrome hub caps can now be secured to the hub.
Seat
The seat normally leaves the plant
in the lowest height. The seat can be adjusted vertically by loosening the
bolt on the bottom of the seat ・moving the seat up or down ・and then
retightening the nut on the bolt. There is approx. 2・of adjustment on the
seat.
The seat can be moved forward or
backward on the frame. Different trikes have different # of adjustment holes
on the frame ・usually 2 or 3. Loosen the nut and remove the bolt on the
seat post and frame and move to the desired hole. Insert the bolt and
tighten firmly the nut.
On certain seats the spring under
the seat may work loose causing the seat to tilt.
The spring turns into the plate of the seat. Grab the spring by hand and
turn the spring into the plate. You will be able to determine which
direction to turn the spring by observing whether the spring is raising the
seat
Pedals:
The pedals should be periodically
checked to make certain that they are screwed tight to the crankshaft.
Occasionally with heavy usage the pedal will come loose from the crankshaft.
It must be tightened immediately so that the threads on the pedal or the
crankshaft are not damaged. The pedals should be kept screwed very tight to
the crank shaft. If the threads are damaged on the crankshaft or the pedals,
they must be replaced.
If the pedals or the crankshaft
needs to be replaced (a rare occurrence if checked properly), there is an R
or an L imbedded on the crankshaft and on the axel of the pedal. The R or L
on the crankshaft must match the R or L on the pedal. When sitting on the
seat and facing the handle bar, the R set must be installed on the right
side of the wheel and the L to the left.
If the pedals turn but the front
wheel does not turn, it usually means that the bolt that attaches the front
rim hub through the axel is broken. We use a 1/4x20 socket head cap screw
Grade 8.
Tires:
Tires should be periodically checked
for pressure. Pressure should be approx. 35PSI
Paint:
The trikes are powder coated under
hi-temperature to provide a hard durable surface. We are very careful in
packing the trikes for shipment to protect them from damage in shipping, but
occasionally there may be some paint damage or chipped paint on the trike.
Also with product use, the paint may
be scratched or chipped. For touch up spray paint, we recommend the use of
Rust-Oleum Apple Red on the red trikes or Deep Blue for the blue trikes. For
touch up on the black surface of the Black Trike, the Backrest Arm or
Extension Arm we recommend use of Rust-Oleum Gloss Black.
We have found a close matching
Yellow for yellow trikes in a spray can from the John Deere store. It is
defined as Ag/C&CE Yellow Paint
We also had Home Depot match the
powder coated Yellow. They provided this formula - use Ultra-Hide Alkyd
gloss int/ext:

Fabric:
The fabric on the trike seat or the
backrest cushion may become damaged in shipment or with use. Any cut or hole
should be covered with a black vinyl tape to keep the hole or cut from
spreading. You can also buy an upholstery/leather repair kit at an auto
supplies store ・such as Pep Boys, or you take the part to an auto
upholstery business for repair. Be sure to get a quote to make certain that
the repair is not more costly than a new part. If the cut or tear exposes
the foam underneath, we also have had success with a spray adhesive called
AM TACK・ We use our finger or a cotton swab to insert the adhesive under
the fabric and then press the fabric until the adhesive dries. TACK・is
normally sold at an auto supply store or at a fabric store.
Handgrips:
The handgrips on the handlebar may
become damaged with use. You can cut the handgrips off, wipe the glue on the
handle bar off with a lacquer thinner and install new grips. Grips should be
available from any bike shop. We use a clear lacquer in a spray can, or you
can also use a hair spray, to spray into the handgrip to allow the handgrip
to slide easily onto the handlebar and then to seal the grip to the handle
bar. You must do this quickly because the lacquer or the hair spray dries
very fast.
